ABB PoWa floor-mounted
compact spray cell

One robot changes between a dry gripper and a hose-connected spray tool, transfers each framed coupon from the 20-position trolley, sprays both sides on a pneumatic 180° flip table, then returns it to the original slot.

Eight interlocked operations

The coupon remains in its stainless-steel frame throughout. Spray is inhibited during handling, tool change and flipping.

Mechanical architecture

Designed around the customer’s full 3 m booth length

01

20-position trolleyMobile, 200°C-capable rack with approximately 40 mm clear spacing, repeatable floor docking, lock and earth confirmation.

02

Floor-mounted PoWa cellCompact base with positive anchoring. Reach study uses PoWa 10’s 1.52 m wrist reach as the preliminary basis.

03

Dry automatic tool interfaceRobot-side master changes between gripper and spray tool. The spray gun remains connected to its paint/air umbilical while parked.

04

Pneumatic 180° flip tableHorizontal trunnion fixture supports the framed coupon, verifies clamp state, and flips only with robot clear and paint disabled.

ENGINEERING HOLD POINT

Hazardous-area approval

The model demonstrates geometry and sequence only. Collaborative safety features—including any pressure-sensitive or “airbag” arrangement—do not replace explosion protection.

  • Confirm coating/solvent SDS, gas group and temperature class.
  • Issue a signed hazardous-area classification for every equipment location.
  • Verify the exact ABB robot/order code and every field device against the required EPL.
  • Validate booth extraction, airflow, fire protection, grounding and electrostatic controls.
  • Complete reach, payload, inertia, collision and functional-safety assessment before release.
No equipment is represented as Ex-certified unless supported by the final manufacturer certificate and matching order code.
